What is a hair transplant?
Hair transplant is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that involves moving thicker hair grafts from the “donor” area to the “recipient” zone, where the hair is thinning, to permanently treat hair loss.
Hair transplant surgery can help restore receding hairlines, fill in thinning or bald spots, and treat major hair loss, such as male and female pattern baldness.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia with minimal downtime. The full results of a hair transplant can be seen in 6 to 12 months after the surgery.
There are two main hair transplant techniques: Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Direct Hair Implantation (DHI). FUE involves removing grafts from the donor area and implanting them into the recipient area, where incisions are made to receive the hair follicles. DHI also removes individual hair follicles, and a “Choi pen” is used to implant them directly into the recipient area without incisions.

How does Turkey compare to other countries for hair transplant costs?
Turkey is recognized as the top destination for hair transplants compared to other countries. In Turkey, you can receive high-quality hair transplants performed by expert surgeons in state-of-the-art facilities at an affordable, all-inclusive price. The extensive expertise of Turkish hair transplant doctors is unmatched, and the hospitality and attention to detail are exceptional.
Compared to the US, where hair transplant prices are among the highest in the world, you can save up to 90% by getting a hair transplant in Turkey instead of the US. According to our patients who previously got a hair transplant in the US, the level of care and the follow-up process are not even comparable to the excellent care provided in Turkey. The high prices are calculated by graft, which encourages patients to seek hair transplants overseas.
You can save up to 85% on hair transplants in Turkey compared to the UK. In the UK, hair transplants are just as expensive as in the US, but there is a higher demand in the population. So, even if one could afford the procedure, the waiting lists are too long. Instead of waiting, most UK patients prefer to come to Turkey for a hair transplant.
In Europe, the situation is very similar to that of the US and the UK in countries such as France, Germany, and Italy. Patients from Western European countries can save up to 90% on hair transplants in Turkey.
Eastern European countries have been improving their medical tourism sector in recent years. At first, prices may seem significantly lower than in Turkey, but most reputable clinics will have pricing similar to Turkey’s. Because medical tourism is a newly developing sector in Eastern Europe, doctors are not as experienced as Turkish doctors.
Mexico is another country where prices are comparable to Turkey. While US patients may prefer Mexico due to its proximity, traveling to Mexico for hair transplant can be a safety concern for some.
Thailand is slightly more expensive than Turkey in terms of hair transplant prices. Their hospitality is also the standard of Turkish care. The downside is that Thailand is less experienced in hair transplants than in other cosmetic procedures.
India is another country with a fast-developing medical sector. Hair transplant costs in India are comparable to Turkey’s. According to outpatients who have had a previous hair transplant in India, Indian doctors tend to over-harvest the grafts, which damages the donor area.
Why are hair transplants so cheap in Turkey?
Hair transplants in Turkey are more affordable because of lower operational costs, currency exchange rates, high competition among clinics, all-inclusive packages, government support for medical tourism, and strategic marketing, all of which contribute to lower prices for international patients.
How do you tell if a hair transplant in Turkey has a good price?
To tell if a hair transplant package in Turkey offers good value, you should consider how realistic the price is. Beware of deals that are significantly below average market rates. For example, a package priced at $1,500 that includes the procedure, transfers, and hotel is unrealistically low. Such prices are below the limits set by the Trade Commission and can indicate the clinic is not licensed.
Examine what’s included in the package, ensuring it covers other essential services like transfers and accommodation. The type and quality of the hotel included in the package can affect the overall price. Higher-end hotels will naturally increase costs, but not dramatically. Request a price breakdown if necessary.
Does a low cost hair transplant in Turkey also mean low quality?
No, a low-cost hair transplant in Turkey does not mean low quality in most cases. As we have explained, the lower costs are primarily due to the exchange rate of the Turkish Lira and government incentives. This way, Turkey can provide international patients with first-class care while being affordable. However, unrealistically low prices (less than $2,000) can indicate that corners are being cut.
Does hair transplant in Turkey charge by graft?
In most clinics, hair grafts in Turkey are not charged per graft, but as an unlimited package deal. Some clinic using the FUT technique can carge per graft.
At MedArt, we don’t charge by the graft; our prices are based on the minimum amount of grafts we can extract and transplant (around 1000-1200). Any number of grafts going over is still included in the package with no hidden fees.
Are there any hidden costs for hair transplant in Turkey?
No, most clinics in Turkey will not have hidden costs for hair transplants if they offer packages. We recommend you carefully examine the package options you are offered and make sure that all your needs can be covered with no additional fees or hidden costs.
Do you offer all-inclusive hair transplant Turkey packages?
Yes, we do offer all-inclusive hair transplant Turkey packages. We have 9 different package options, each with different types of hair transplant techniques and accommodation levels.

How to get a hair transplant in Turkey: Step By Step
Let’s look at how the hair transplant procedure works in Turkey, from consultation and hair analysis to pre-op tests, preparation, operation steps, and the follow-up care.
Consultation & Hair analysis
Our expert doctor closely examines your hair and scalp during consultation and hair analysis. A hair analysis allows us to explore the following:
- Condition of the donor area and the recipient area
- Calculate the number of grafts that can be extracted and transplanted
- Hairline design based on facial features
- Number of grafts to be extracted based on your preferred results
- Number of multiple vs. single grafts to transplant
- Best hair transplant technique to use
- Your likely success rate
After this, the doctor will inform you of how the procedure will proceed and give you informed consent.
Pre-op Tests
For pre-op tests, we conduct a simple complete blood count and an infectious disease panel for diseases that can be transmitted by blood. This allows us to see if you’re healthy enough to go through surgery and lets us know if you have any illnesses that can pass on to the operating staff. We also take an additional vial of blood to use during the surgery to apply PRP treatment.
Preparation
In preparation for the surgery, our nurses guide you into a changing room so you can change into a surgical gown. Then, the donor area of the head is shaved with an electric trimmer to make all hair strands the same height. After shaving, you’re guided into the operating room for the administration of anesthesia.
Operation
We apply 2 rounds of local anesthesia: First, we apply a small dose with Dermojet Needleless Syringes, which are painless. When the painless application takes effect, we apply the proper dose of local anesthesia on the scalp.
We begin extractions on the donor area. We use a low-speed, modified micro-motor extraction tool to harvest the hair grafts. The modified device creates the least amount of stress on the donor area, allowing us to extract perfectly healthy grafts and helping the donor area heal faster. We keep the grafts in HypoThermosol® solution at 4° C (39.2° F).
After the grafts are harvested, our doctor creates incisions on the recipient area for the Sapphire FUE procedure. These incisions are placed deliberately to aim for the density you desire and the direction your hair grows in for the natural result. We apply PRP treatment to increase the healing potential. We carefully place the grafts inside these incisions.
For DHI, incisions are not needed, and the hair can be directly transplanted with a Choi Pen.
Once the transplant is complete, you get dressings and instructed on the healing process.
Post-op recovery & First Wash
1 day after the operation, we do a follow-up to see your condition and change your dressings.
2 days after the operation, one of our nurses gives you your first hair wash in the clinic. You’re given instructions on how to care for your hair and scalp in the following weeks, along with products you should use.
